The Loire is France's longest river, rising in the Ardéche in central France and flowing to Nantes on the Atlantic Coast. There is no generic appellation for the Loire although it does have a Vin de Pays status, Jardin de la France, that covers the whole region. Almost half the production is white, a quarter red, about 12% rosé and the remainder sparkling. Weather patterns and vintages can differ greatly across the region and from year to year. The Loire can be split broadly in to 4 different areas.
